What is Physiotherapy?
Our focuses on the science of human movement, using a multi-system approach (cardiovascular, neurological, musculoskeletal). At Apollo, our Ottawa physiotherapists typically focuses on treating conditions specific to muscles, bones, the nervous system, balance, and overall general health and well-being. Physiotherapists help to relieve pain, restore muscle balance, correct posture, and address activity and functional limitations caused by motor vehicle accidents and other serious personal injuries.
Physiotherapists are capable of assessing a patient’s condition or impairment, and implementing a treatment plan best suited to the patient’s deficits. The Physiotherapist may involve a physiotherapy assistant or kiniseologist to help carry out a patient’s treatment plan.
Your first visit to one of our Ottawa Physiotherapy clinics
The first time you visit Apollo, you will be asked to come a few minutes early to fill in some forms. This paperwork will consist of a health history form and a clinic policies form. After that, the practitioner will come and get you from the waiting area and you will head to the treatment area, which will be either a room or a cubicle.
Ottawa Physio Assessment
The Physiotherapist will go over your health history with you, and then perform a comprehensive physioterapy assessment, typically lasting between 45 and 60 minutes. They will look at your posture, range of motion in different joints, and execute other tests specific to your particular issues. After the assessment, the physiotherapist may include some treatment (manual therapy, ultrasound, stretching or otherwise), and will assign you some physio exercises to perform at home.
Physio Pool program
The pool program caters to clients with chronic pain and or multiple injuries as well as clients who are not able to tolerate traditional physiotherapy treatment (increased pain to exercises or hands on therapy).
Pool physiotherapy takes advantage of the healing properties of water which eliminates 80-90% of the compressive forces on the joints and soft tissue. This allows clients to work through a greater range of motion with less pain during movements and after sessions. In addition, pool based exercises allow clients to do a greater number of exercises for longer duration (than land based exercises) which results in overall physical improvements.

In home physio program
We are pleased to announce that we now offer in-home Physiotherapy treatment. The in-home Ottawa physio program allows us to assess and treat clients with severe mobility limitations who may not be able to access our clinic services.
The in-home physiotherapy program is designed to allow clients to get an early start on treatment and alleviate the challenge of travelling to and from a clinic. This is helpful for clients with multiple or severe injuries, clients in wheelchairs, clients who are house bound due to lack of transportation, or clients who may incur further injury by trying to get to a physiotherapy clinic (slippery roads, non-weight bearing status, impaired balance, social anxiety).
