Orthotics – a Strong Foundation

Your feet have a direct impact on the rest of your body.  Like the foundation of a house, your feet support the weight of everything above them.

Fact: 25% of the bones of your body are in your feet.

Fact: the average person takes 8,000 to 10,000 steps per day and walk over 100,000 miles in their lifetime, or more than 4 trips around the world.

Fact: more than 75% of people will experience foot problems in their lifetime.

When a small problem develops in your feet, a subtle change in the way you walk will cause a chain reaction of adjustments in your posture and walking mechanics.  Think about this small problem like a little pebble in your shoe; no matter how small, that pebble affects the way you walk. These changes put stress on joints higher up in the body and spine, leading to more serious problems to the foot, ankle, knee, hip, and low back.

Custom orthotics assist with rebalancing the feet, reducing pain, fatigue, and discomfort by enhancing your body’s natural movements.  Orthotics take the pebble out, so to speak.

Orthotics are a custom made device designed to align the foot and ankle into the most anatomically efficient position to correct your specific foot imbalance.  Custom orthotics are designed to reduce the stress and strain on your body by bringing your feet back into proper alignment. The plastic body of the custom orthotic helps to re-align the foot by redirecting and reducing certain motion that takes place during the gait cycle.

Orthotics help reduce pain associated with:

Plantar Fasciitis – a restored arch significantly reduces the daily pull on the plantar fascia by relaxing the “bowstring” function of the fascia.  It is the only practical way to address both the symptoms AND the cause of your problem

Morton’s neuroma – orthotics are designed to keep the metatarsals apart, removing excessive weight and pressure from the metatarsals to reduce irritation on the plantar nerve.  This greatly reduces the chances of nerve irritation and the formation of a Morton’s neuroma.  As well, orthotics will absorb friction and excessive pressure, rather then passing these forces on to the nerves and bones in the balls of the feet.

Heel Spur – orthotics are designed to correct over-pronation and greatly improve poor foot function. The excessive tension on the plantar fascia is being released, thus treating the actual cause of “Plantar Fasciitis”. In addition, a cushioning shock-absorbing heel pad under the orthotic reduces the impact on the painful heel, providing relief and walking comfort.
