1) Chiropractors aren’t real doctors.

Fiction– Chiropractors in Canada are entitled to use the title ‘doctor’. They are one of the few professions in Ontario that are allowed to use the ‘doctor’ title, along with dentists, psychologists, medical doctors and optometrists. Chiropractors are educated in conditions of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system. Their focus is on achieving optimal health through proper spinal alignment. Trust me, you’re in good hands!

2) Chiropractors treat much more than just back pain.

Fact– Chiropractors can be helpful for a wide variety of conditions and symptoms. Many people report improvement with their fibromyalgia symptoms following an Ottawa chiropractic treatment. What if I told you that allergies can be managed with chiropractic adjustments? A small spinal misalignment may be a causing a huge problem!

3) Once you start receiving treatment, you have to continue going multiple times per week.

Fiction– When you begin treatment, your chiropractor will recommend a treatment schedule. As treatment continues, the frequency of visits changes. You may start out going twice a week. Generally, as your body heals, you will be able to go longer between treatments. Throughout life, seeing a chiropractor for maintenance can be considered preventative care, much like healthy eating and exercise.

4) Cracking your back yourself is the same thing.

Fiction– Chiropractors have a high level of education. Even when you hear the ‘cracking’ noise when you crack your back at home, you have not achieved the same beneficial results as a carefully planned spinal adjustment. Although it may seem like the right thing to do, we suggest you leave the ‘cracking’ to the professionals!

5) Chiropractic care contributes to disease prevention.

Fact– A study by the National College of Chiropractic in Lombard, Illinois, discovered that white blood cell counts raised as quickly as 15 minutes after a chiropractic adjustment. White blood cells are the cells responsible for fighting disease. White blood cells are also responsible for destroying cancer cells. If chiropractic adjustments are documented to increase white blood cell count, could chiropractic treatment contribute to cancer prevention? Chiropractic adjustments contribute to maintaining balance in the body. The more balance, the less risk for disease including cancer.

6) Chiropractic care is dangerous.

Fiction– Surgery and medical side effects are more dangerous that non-invasive chiropractic adjustments. The American Chiropractic Association states “Chiropractic care has an excellent safety record. This should be viewed in the context of other treatments for back pain such as steroids, pain medications and surgery).”

7) Even Arnold Schwarzenegger promotes chiropractic adjustments!

Fact– Mr. Schwarzenegger states, “We’ve got to let the people know that there is a necessity, it’s not even an option, it’s a necessity to have a chiropractor. As much as it is a necessity to have a dentist, if you have a dentist for the family, you should have your chiropractor for the family.”
