Counseling & Psychotherapy

What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is the skilled and principled use of relationship to facilitate self- knowledge, emotional acceptance and growth and the optimal development of personal resources. The overall aim of a psychotherapist is to provide an opportunity for people to work towards living more satisfyingly and resourcefully. Psychotherapy can vary according to your needs but may be concerned with developmental issues, addressing and resolving specific problems, making decisions, coping with crisis, developing personal insights and knowledge, working through feelings of inner conflict or improving relationships with others.
Psychotherapy offers you a safe, confidential place to talk about your life or give expression to anything that may be difficult, confusing, painful, uncomfortable, or preventing you from fully engaging in daily life. It allows you to work with someone who is trained to listen attentively and to help you improve or stabilize things.

What happens on the first visit?

The first time you visit Apollo, you will be asked to come a few minutes early to fill in some forms. This paperwork will consist of a health history form and a clinic policies form.
Your first session will be about why you are looking for therapy; what you want to achieve from the therapy, and agreeing how you and your psychotherapist are going to work together. Your psychotherapist will probably ask you a number of questions to help you decide whether you will both be comfortable working together and to check that you can be offered the most appropriate support.
